So yesterday (Feb 11) was my birthday. Hubby bought me a wheel a few days before as a surprise. It was a Kromski Mazurka. YAY! SOOOOOOO pretty.

Yesterday as a bday present to myself I went to a local spinning guild meeting and hubby and MIL watched my kiddos...and I bought myself an Ashford Traveller. YAY!

I can't wait to spin some more yarn. I've already filled a bobbin Very Happy

Pics shortly!

I must agree! I'm thrilled. Remember me telling you that I NEEDED a wheel? I remember you saying no no, just learn the spindle first...it's best that way and your drafting will be better.

I just want to tell you thank you for that. You were right! The ladies in the guild meeting thought it was amazing that I was spinning so thin for the first time on a wheel and I said yeah but it's because I spun on a spindle first, lol. The president of the spinning guild who was also the one to invite me to a meeting smiled and told everyone "I brought her in...she came because I invited her! I'm claiming her!" Very Happy

So that's that. You were right! Now I'm SO happy that I have the wheel though because it's SO much faster!!!!!!!! Who could have spun 8-10oz in 3 days on a spindle in just hours a day. I estimate that I only spin about 3 hours a day...and no way it would be like that with a spindle. SO HAPPY!

2 days of spinning. This is a 3.625 oz batt from BohoKnitterChic Spins. I love her batts!

Spun in one day. 1.5 oz roving which is now plied and made 106.75 yards of yarn...probably worsted weight but it's just now drying so I haven't gotten to WPI yet:

The horror of finding out that there was a LOT more than I thought and I was already half way into an andean plying bracelet!

Thanks for the link! I've been looking for the link everywhere and couldn't find it but I found a post on Ravelry from Rosemaryknits who was the first to do that technique and she was explaining it in words so I was hoping to learn that way. I tutorial is much better, lol!

I also finished some laceweight alpaca last night that I spun from a sample I was given. I got .6 oz and got 152.25 yards of plied lace weight from it. I spun it on spindles and then plied it on the wheel since I didn't have a wheel or even an idea that I'd BE getting one when I spun them. I am SOOOOOOO proud of myself. That's by FAR the most yardage I've gotten from a sample and it's also a gorgeous lace weight. YUM!

I also gave the stuff I spun that I'd gotten free at the spinning guild meeting a bath. I weighed it before and it was 1.5 oz. I then set the twist and slammed it on the tub a few times to get the lovely halo back. I got 106.75 yards from that 1.5 oz ball. WOOT!

The brown lace weight feels amazing and the drape is even better. The grey mystery wool from guild is rough even after its bath and not all that drapey but it'll look good when it's knit up I'm sure. I can't wait to make something from it.

Kellye, I am so pleased that you are enjoying spinning so much. You are doing beautiful work.

How are your kids? I imagine they are really growing.

They are doing great nony. Growing like weeds. My youngest is going to be 2 in June and my middle son will be 3 March 5th. The oldest just turned 8 in January. So big!

I am glad that I found spinning. I think I like it as much if not more than knitting. YAY for spinning! When I get tired of spinning I will just start knitting the yarns that I've made and come back to it when I get another jonesing lol!

I set the twist on the grey yarn pictured above and plied some alpaca that I'd spindle spun awhile ago last night. They both look awesome (if I do say so myself!!!)
