Not so much leftover yarn.. but handspun, which is never a standard length...

Lately, I've been skeining my yarn, to find out how much I have... I got some of those stringed tags.. I write the yardage on it, and if I have a pattern in mind.. I write the pattern name on the tag... then attach it to the skein...

Now, at least I know what I have, and what I planned for it, if anything...

thats a good idea. As I don't spin it never occured to me there would be different lengths, obvious really.

Actually.. it looks really good in the sewing room right now, as I had to clean off the sewing table to bind a quilt... but it's far from organized..

Later in the spring, when it's warmer, I'm planning to do a serious make over in the sewing room...

sounds as if someone is going to be busy. It's nice when you sort and find things you'd forgotten about - hope that happens Very Happy

The tie on labels are a good idea. I write mine down in the back of my knitting notebook.

Just a quick update on this...

I also started writing the name of the pattern I want to knit with that yarn on the tag.. and other notes... For instance.. Nony discovered that there was some errata published on the pattern that I want to use in the March KAL.. and I'd already tagged the yarn.. so, I bookmarked, and made a note on the tag... For me, it beats looking up in a notebook, because I'd probably forget that I had put it in a notebook.. This way, it's right on the yarn.. when I get ready to knit that pattern...

That's really getting organised.

Having realised that my biggest problem is odds and ends rather than large amounts of any one yarn, I am going to work on knitting the bits up.
