| Never have done this before. Be patient please. I used to do craft shows with my handmade knits and crochets. When the economy dropped my sales dropped and in some cases didn't even make enough to cover the cost of the space. Now I still have a closet full of yarn. My problem. ..I find a pattern for something I might like to make but the yarn is not in my closet collection. When I search for a specific closet yarn I often come up with not enough yarn or not something of interest. Any ideas for me? |

I came across this afghan while browsing Ravelry. I'm not sure it's what you had in mind, but it looks like it could use up a lot of scrap yarn in a hurry. The backstory, likening it to a group of public school children, appealed to me too.

Welcome
Maybe it would help if you gave us some ideas of what yarn you have & quantities, and what sort of things you like making |

This is just amazing to me. I have never done anything like this and I got so many responses and welcomes from so many "strangers". Thank you all very much. It sounds to me as though I might do best with an afghan to use up most of the worsteds. It will be a jumble of mis-matched colors though, unless I break down and buy (uh ho) some different colors!
Is there an "instruction page" for chatting in this parlor? I have questions.
Thank you everyone! |

Welcome to Knitting Haven!!!
There is a chat feature in this forum, but because we are in so many different places and time zones, we seldom chat on it. We just post down the same topic whenever we get a chance to come online, as you have seen. You might want to start a thread in "What are you working on" or once you get to know us better, you will find that we talk about other subjects on "Let's just visit". We have threads for crochet and spinning and varied other subjects. Wander around and check things out; I think you will like it here. I found some very nice and helpful friends here; I hope you do, too.

Hey, Lin... Welcome...
If you're a member of Ravelry.. you can do an advanced pattern search there. You can search for patterns that will work with the amount of yarn and weight that you have. I do this a lot since I spin, and never get a 'standard' amount or weight...
Hope this helps... _________________ Exodus 35:25-26 |

Welcome aboard, Lin.
An afghan would be one option for you. It sounds as though you have lots of different colours, so perhaps you could work it in similarly coloured squares, and add a border to bring the colours together.
If there are patterns that you like, you can use Yarndex to try and find a yarn in your stash that you can use instead.
As for chatting with us, just read through some of our threads, and add a reply if you want. _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/counter/w3Fpqgo/]

Hi Lin!
Welcome to the friendliest, most helpful and wonderful people there are. There's always someone (or 2 or 3) to help.
I made this with a sackful of scraps and not enough balls of yarn that i had laying around. It's a mix match of all kinds of yarn and all colors. Might give you an idea. www.ravelry.com/projects/CyndyW/grandmas-afghan
You could also make a childs sweater in different colored stripes. My daughter had one I made as a child and it has since been passed around the family.
Hope this helps. _________________ Ravelry name CyndyW |

Hello and welcome, Lin. I think a "crazy quilt" sort of afghan with all colors of yarn might be interesting. Also, If you just did stripes with your bits, that could use up some of your stash. _________________ I have learned over the years that when one's mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear. - Rosa Parks |
