Does anyone do beaded knitting? Another one of my passions (besides cats, and any other thing that you can do with a needle and some kind of fibre.

I have done knitted beaded Christmmas ornaments. They were beautiful. I must do more; I hadn't thought about them in a long while.

I made a sweater that Lily Chin designed (she wears it on her first Knity Gritty appearance - short sleeves; allover beads). I couldn't afford the yarn she used, so I subbed baby yarn - it's great EXCEPT it's a tad shorter than I would have liked. The second one I make will be longer (with long sleeves - maybe) - it will be in light blue with dark blue beads. I've threaded about 800 beads so far (only 3000 to go!!). I will also knit it in the round. With the beads that have been threaded, I can just about do the bottom ribbing (sigh).

Wow Jackie - that must take hours!

I knitted a felted bag with beads - there were only about 75 of them, and they were added with a crochet hook (hooked around a stitch).

yup, it takes a while. But i get the kids involved too (DH, as usual, just rolls his eyes - he does NOT understand this whole knitting thing at all - poor guy); i have them push the beads down the yarn a bit at a time while I do the the threading and then we switch jobs; since it's rather tedious, we don't last more than 1/2 hour at a time. I know there is no way that I'll even start the knitting until summer. I just thread a bunch of beads at any given sitting so it doesn't drive me too batty. And I figure "when it's done, it's done" then hopefully, I won't have gotten sick of the yarn by then. The knitting is fun as the beading pattern changes just enough to keep it interesting. The sweater is featured in Lily Chin's book Knit and Crochet with Beads; I believe she calls it the "Vargas Girl Pullover".

I have knit several beaded purses. The original pattern called it "Brides's Purse" so it was done in white with pearls. I then decided that other colors would look good also so I did a black with gold beads, pink with pastel beads and a blue with multi colored glass beads. I started a black with red beads, but changed things up a bit and was going to do it in the round. I was haviang all kinds of trouble with the needles I was using so put it aside until I could get the proper needle size in a bamboo so it wouldn't be so slickery.
I'll try to remember to put a picture on my blog. I only have the pink one left, the others were all made as gifts and have been given away. Sad .
