I'd like to find at least one other person to knit this with so I will keep on track and not just put it down. I really like it and want to get it done.

Anyone want to knit this with me? Smile

No takers? I hope someone is thinking of making this or wants to re-make it because I think turning it into a KAL is what I need to actually DO it, lol.

I also need to get my yarn wound into a ball but no one around here does it...OR sells ball winders so I could do it myself...so I believe that I'm going to have to put it around my feet and wind it tonight when my son goes to sleep Sad

Do a search on Google for skein or ball winders and you'll find plenty of stores that sell them. They aren't too expensive and are wonderful.

My husband made me a swift to hold the yarn while I'm winding it into a a ball because I used to fight so with the umbrella type I originally had. You should put one of each of these on your 'have to have' someday list.

It's BEEN on my have to have list, haha. I'm just too poor. I'm a stay at home mom and have no income and do it alone so...Can't afford it at all. Maybe someday! LOL.

Okay.....next best thing....a door knob or the back of a ladder back chair. Just be sure to wind loosely. Once you stretch your yarn it seldoms relaxes back to it's original state.

And....I hear you about no money.....I used a door knob for many, many years!

That's a good idea Holly. I actually have a closet door knob right beside my chair that I can sit and watch tv in while I do it, lol.

How do you recommend starting the ball? This will be the first yarn I've had to make up myself and I have about 3-4 more hanks that I'll have to do as well.

I just started by wrapping the yarn around two fingers and then just keep rotating the 'ball' every few yards to try and roll it evenly.

There's a way to do this so you can pull it from the center.....I think you use a toilet paper center to do it somehow. Perhaps someone knows this trick and can jump in with the technique.

I don't think too many will jump in Holly, I'm kind of behind on this pattern...most have already knitted it MANY times over and I'm just buying it for the first time, LOL

Kelly....I meant jump in with how to roll the yarn so you can pull it from the center.

Someone may join you....you never know. We have several people who check in every day but there are others who just drop by now and again and may not have even read your invitation yet.

I haven't knit it yet, and I bought the pattern earlier on today. I don't know when I'm going to start it though, as I'm hoping to finish some of my WIPs first.

Paula set up a general shawl knitalong. Have you looked at that?

I'm going to start one once I'm done with the baby sweater that I've knitted. I just have to do the border on the bottoms and figure out how to seam the sleeves to the darn thing then I'm done, lol.

Do the pointy edges on it emerge as you are knitting the shawl or is it something that happens after the bind off? I've seen some before blocking and it seems as though they aren't pointy around the edges and people said something about the edges and binding off. I'm not sure how that works and that's the part I'm kind of confused on.

And this is what it looks like when you block it. Can you see the pins? You need to leave it like this until it's completely dry. I use the picnic blanket because it has lines to guide you and also because it has a waterproof backing
