Any suggestions on the best way to store dpns so that you don't get the sizes confused? _________________

I've seen them in business size envelopes and traveling tooth brush holders. _________________ www.knittinghaven.com |

A few years ago, my mom made me a crochet hook holder out of a fabric placemat for Christmas. It's hard to describe how it was made (I'll have to post a pic at some point), but it has elasic sewn in from one end to the other, and she threw in some stitches along the elastic throughout so that different sized crochet hooks can be inserted in order of size. She sewed on some wide ribbon onto the outside so it can be rolled and tied to keep it closed. I'm positive that this can be converted to work for DPNs. In fact, I've thought about making another for my DPNs. When I get a chance, I'll definitely post a pic so that you can see how it's done. _________________ ~Samantha~

I have elastic bands around each set to keep them together + size labels. Then I keep them in cardboard tubes (that originally had bottles in eg whiskey!!)
Not ideal but works for me - like the sound of your 'wrap' Samantha |

My mother bought some for me years ago at a yardsale that were kept together with masking tape. I do NOT recommend that. It took forever to get the stickiness off.
I have a carrier I made similar to the one described that I keep my regular needles in. With my dpns, I tend to try to keep the original package in good shape and slip them back in between projects. Some of mine came in heavy vinyl envelopes with nice flaps. |

I ended up getting some toothbrush holders in different colors.. They work well for the shorter dpns, but for the longer ones, they're almost too small... Will have to ponder further....
The crochet hook keeper sounds like a good idea... _________________

Have you tried a pasta cannister for storage ? {dollar store}
You can put a round piece of foam in the bottom to protect the tips.
It works great for me and I even have a few stored in a round cardboard wine gift box. Lid is attached so its never lost & they have a few nice patterns. I got mine @ a garage sale last summer for 50 cents ~ YaY !
And, it even has a string to hang it up if needed.
For my really long ones that I have inherited from oldsters no longer knitting I use a smoked salmon pine box, with a sliding lid.
Hope these ideas work for you !

Have you noticed that they stopped doing the vinyl envelopes? At least I don't find them around here anymore. GRRRRRRR
I use the ones I have, and I also try to keep the original packaging for the others nice too. Then, all the packages are in a plastic shoe box. I need to find a good way to organize that because the size I happen to be looking for at any particular moment is ALWAYS at the bottom!!
I've thought of sewing a dpn holder but haven't gotten around to it - yet. _________________ Vive le tricotage!!

hmmmmmmm .... thinking & thinking .....
I'm thinking about using 3 ring plastic sheet protectors (open at the top)
And sealed narrow like, to store needles & keep them in a narrow photo album.
It would work for both circular & DPN.
hmmmmmmmmm ..............

Yes.... a needle roll is on the list of things to do...
My straight needles are also stored in the empty presentation tube from a bottle of whisky that I inherited from my grandmother... |

I stole DD's pony tail bands and wrapped the needles with a piece of paper with the size of the needles written on it. I also have many different colors of needles, so I know my most frequently used ones by color. I still have to get the needle sizer out to do the smaller sock needles. _________________ Help find a cure for ALS! |
