I have just purchased some Patons Fairytale 3 ply 100% baby wool to knit a circular shawl as an heirloom (14) 50grm balls.
I think I may be a little too adventurous here but the pattern seems straightforward.
Starts off on four dp's and onto small then large circular needles as amount of stitches increase.
I realise this will be a longterm project but think I can manage it after the F.C.S and the WFW
The pattern is from Patons Baby Shawls Collection 1.
Ant hints or help or suggestions for making this project a success would be greatfully received. |

Holly said - Use a LIFELINE!
completely agree !!!!
Also take copy of pattern and then you can write on it if you need to & not worry about it |

80 stitches and 17 rounds done so far
Only another 1000 stitches to increase, lots more back and neck ache and plenty of money added to the swear jar
but the plus side is whilst I am knitting this my DH can happily watch his football with no complaints from moi
Lace work is becoming addictive but oh so frustrating for me as I am used to neat and tidy knitting and it is proving to be a battle against my neat freakness. |

I love doing lace work, but it can be daunting sometimes. I would love to see your progress. _________________ "There is no certainty, only opportunity." |

Hils,
I am so loving this lace knitting
I have drunk less and smoked less since starting the shawl but my social life is suffering as I am resenting time away from it
Now on row 37 with 200 plus stitches and enjoying seeing the pattern unfold as I progress.
I am definately a kneat freak knitting convert now
Will try and post a pic tomorrow. |

I am now at the stage on my shawl where I have to add a new ball of yarn and the pattern suggests that I splice the yarn
Never done this before !
Any suggestions !
Now on row 70 !
Hows yours coming along Jackie ? |

Katknit:
still on the same row. I'm taking a break to knit the January sockamania socks. one is done; just cast on the second sock tonite. if we travel this weekend, i will take the afghan with me - it'll be good to work on it in the car. it's on a circular needle, so i don't have to worry about dropping one of my dpns between the seat and the door or some other place where i won't be able to reach it.
Ooh, splicing: i've seen it demonstrated and word has it that it only works with natural animal fibers. the method i've seen most often involves taking the two ends, wetting them (with water or even spit if you'd like - it's natural, righ?), overlapping them about an inch or two then rubbing the ends together until they kinda felt together. I've never done it so I can't vouch for its strength but i've heard good things. good luck! _________________ Vive le tricotage!!

I do it all the time. It's strong, and invisible in the knitted fabric.. I've also been known to do it with my spinning, if, while I'm plying one of the singles breaks... _________________
