|
|
I would love to try basic fair isle, maybe starting off with just 2 colours to add a bit of color to my jelly bag hat!
The amount of info on the net is just baffling and I would just like to know the basics and principles of fair isle eg: how to twist the yarns when changing color!
The best way to join a new color etc,etc etc>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
If anyone can help! |

For as much as I have done, you have to put the new color under the old color to avoid making a hole. So, if you are working a row of blue and white, when you come to a white stitch, put the blue strand over the white strand, make your stitch, gently pull both yarns, and keep going in that fashion. As for joining a new color, just start knitting with it, doing the twist suggested above, and give both strands a gentle tug to keep the tension right. I hope that was not too baffling! _________________ Help find a cure for ALS! |

Katknit, the company Philosopher's Wool has a great video explaining how to knit color work using two strands AND two hands. I've tried this method and find it easy-ish.
You can have a look HERE. _________________ Audrey

That was a terrific video. It makes me want to go get a couple of colors of yarn and play! _________________ Help find a cure for ALS! |

| Its a good idea to have shorts lengths of yarn of the colours - you can buy plastic 'holders' to wind small amounts of yarn onto so that you don't get into yarn tangle - I love working with different colours - it looks so clever but actually isn't too difficult at all - hope you all get on ok |

You are quite welcome I was thinking when I discovered this video of trying this method on a sock. Of course many other projects have gotten in the way of this idea, but I still dream about it! _________________ Audrey
