Ok, I just started knitting so I'm sort of slow but I have an ambitious list. Smile

1) Make a bunch of non-snagging stitch markers

2) Finish my dishcloth (first project)

3) Start my shawl

4) Take Magic Loop class Sept 14,21,28

5) Take Lace class Sept 11,18,25

Think I've bitten off to much?

The class went great. Lace is much easier (at least this pattern is) than I thought. I learned what a yarn over is, I'd seen that in patterns and always wondered. The instructor is very nice and more than happy to answer any questions at all about knitting even if they have nothing to do with the class.

She even helped me buy the stuff I need for my sock class tomorrow before we started the lace class. That was funny. The supply list said I needed a sock blank. I asked the woman at the register where they would be and she pointed out the two locations but she had a customer behind me so I turned down her offer to help me pick one out. I go to the first area and there are some 'scarves' and some plastic forms that look like socks. The forms say size 9-11 so I go to the other area where there are more 'scarves' and more forms, this time there are some size 6-8 so I grab the smaller form and go back to the register. I put the form down and ask what yarn I would need. The woman at the register told me the blank was the yarn and I just give her a lost looking stare. At that point Sue, the instructor for the lace class, came out of the back room and so the person at the register asked her if she could help me with the sock class. So Sue took me back to where I got the form and told me I needed the 'scarf' and that the plastic thing was a sock blocker. So at this point I'm totally confused and she explained what a blank was and how you use it. She was so patient as I drilled her with questions and didn't laugh at a single one even though I'm sure some of them were very funny to her.

After she got me all set I paid for the blank and my circular needle we went to the back room for class. Smile I really enjoyed it and can't wait to go back on Friday for class #2.

Tomorrow I will let you guys know how my first sock class went. I actually met the instructors husband today at the sheep and wool festival. She had a booth and I recognized the tag on her items as being the same tag on the blank I bought on friday. She wasn't at her booth and I had my husband with me so we didn't stay to wait for her to get back. I figured I would meet her tomorrow and that would be good enough. Smile

Glad to hear that things are going well for you! I am glad you enjoyed your first class. I have yet to do lace. Working my way towards it. There are just so many things to learn in knitting that I feel that it will take a lifetime. Enjoy your knitting!

I think it's great that you are taking the sock and shawl classes! You are going to be a super proficient knitter before you know it. Everything that you thought was a big difficult mystery is just being unfolded before your eyes. It's not nearly as hard as you thought, is it? Wink

No, the lace isn't at all as bad as I had imagined it would be. That is the teachers goal in teaching this class, she even named it Fearless Lace. Smile

I am soooooo jealous. I am going to have to look for some classes and plan a trip to take them. There is nothing close enough to me for it to be an easy daytrip. The way you describe your classes makes them sound like educational and fun! Soon you will be showing us pictures of your end products. Smile

Took my first sock class today. This is much more difficult than the lace class but still fun. I ended up starting it over because I did something very wrong but thats ok, it's good practice Smile

So now I have three projects in progress. One simple shawl, a lace scarf, and a pair of socks. I'm going to be a busy little girl for a while Smile

What is the tip to close the loop on a stitch marker? I love making them but I can never get the ring even so it won't snag.

The tip to making snagless stitch markers is to not use a jump ring at all. I use a loop of leather. I'll take a picture of mine later and post them so you can see what I do. I'm going to be selling them on ArtFire soon too so you can just get them from me if you want Smile

We are using the Magic Loop method for making socks 2 at the same time.

Yeehaw on the magic loop socks! You may never experience the scourge of SSS (Second Sock Syndrome). Laughing
